Reiki Meditation & Mindfulness

Traditional Japanese Meditation Practice

Rooted in Usui Reiki Ryōhō

"Meditation is the heart of Reiki.

Healing naturally follows."

Experience the original contemplative practices of Usui Reiki Ryōhō through our weekly Reiki Meditation & Mindfulness Practice in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Rooted in the traditional teachings of Usui Sensei and Hayashi Sensei, these weekly gatherings cultivate stillness, presence, energetic awareness, and compassionate attention through the meditative disciplines that formed the foundation of early Japanese Reiki.

Whether you are completely new to meditation or have practiced Reiki for decades, each session offers an opportunity to step away from the pace of modern life and return to quiet awareness.

Unlike many meditation classes that focus exclusively on relaxation, Reiki Meditation cultivates an ongoing relationship with mindfulness, breath, posture, and daily spiritual practice.

This is Reiki as it was originally practiced.

Not simply as healing.

But as a way of living.

What Is Reiki Meditation?

The Living Heart of Usui Reiki Ryōhō

Long before Reiki became widely known as a healing modality, it was practiced as a discipline of meditation and personal cultivation.

Daily meditation formed the foundation of Usui Sensei's teaching.

Practitioners gathered regularly to cultivate awareness, refine the breath, quiet the mind, and deepen their connection to Reiki through direct experience rather than intellectual study.

At the center of this tradition is Hatsurei-hō (発霊法)—"The Method for Generating Spiritual Energy."

Rather than seeking extraordinary experiences, Hatsurei-hō gradually develops extraordinary presence.

Through consistent practice, meditation becomes less something we do and more the way we begin to live.

Every Weekly Practice Includes

Each 45-minute session follows the traditional progression of Hatsurei-hō while remaining welcoming and accessible to beginners.

Our weekly practice includes:

• Arrival in Silence

• Gasshō (Meditative Centering)

• Kenyoku (Dry Bath Purification)

• Joshin Kokyū-hō (Purifying Breath Practice)

• Hatsurei-hō Meditation

• Seishin Tōitsu (One-Pointed Awareness)

• Reflection on the Reiki Precepts (Gokai)

• Traditional Reiju

• Closing Meditation

Each practice follows the same essential structure, allowing students to deepen through repetition rather than constant novelty.

Like Zen meditation or traditional Yoga, transformation develops through consistency.

Why Practice Weekly?

Meditation is not built through inspiration.

It is built through rhythm.

A consistent weekly practice gradually develops:

• Greater emotional resilience

• Nervous system regulation

• Increased clarity and concentration

• Energetic sensitivity

• Inner stability

• Compassionate awareness

• Presence in daily life

• A sustainable meditation habit

Over time, students often discover that the greatest transformation occurs not during meditation itself, but in how they begin to meet the rest of life.

Every practitioner at the New York City Reiki Academy is encouraged to maintain a regular meditation practice.

Whether your interest is healing, personal growth, or professional Reiki training, meditation remains the foundation upon which every other aspect of Reiki develops.

For many students, this weekly practice becomes the quiet rhythm that supports everything else.

Study.

Healing.

Practice.

Life.

Begin Your Practice

You do not need to become someone different before beginning meditation.

You simply begin.

One breath.

One practice.

One week at a time.

‍ The Lineage

Behind Our Practice

Our meditation practice preserves the contemplative methods taught within the early tradition of Usui Reiki Ryōhō, including Hatsurei-hō, Kenyoku, Joshin Kokyū-hō, Gasshō, and Reiju.

While honoring these traditional Japanese practices, the Academy also draws upon contemporary understanding of meditation, mindful awareness, and the complementary perspectives of Ayurveda and Hatha Raja Yoga.

The goal is not historical reenactment.

It is living practice.

A tradition remains alive only when it continues to be practiced.
